Antifeminism also spelled anti-feminism is opposition to some or all forms of feminism. Earlier groups of antifeminists have opposed particular policy proposals for women’s rights, such as women’s suffrage in the late 19th century and early 20th century. The term antifeminist is also used to describe public female figures, some of whom such as Naomi Wolf , Camille Paglia , and Kate Roiphe define themselves as feminists, based on their opposition to some or all elements of feminist movements. The meaning of antifeminism has varied across time and cultures, and antifeminism attracts both men and women. Some women, like those in the Women’s National Anti-Suffrage League , campaigned against women’s suffrage. Men’s studies scholar Michael Kimmel defines antifeminism as “the opposition to women’s equality”. He says that antifeminists oppose “women’s entry into the public sphere, the re-organization of the private sphere, women’s control of their bodies, and women’s rights generally.

I couldn’t believe it was a serious question. How could this possibly be a question? Instead, I sat there in disbelief, convincing myself it was okay. These were the people I’d have to face for the rest of my life. I wasn’t wrong for thinking that. Fighting for what you believe in is hard, and if we want to achieve gender equality, it’s going to take everyone’s effort.
However, my experience as an activist and heterosexual woman has taught me that the most effective way to advance this cause is to date someone who doesn’t cringe at the word “feminism. The lack of education and ignorance surrounding the beauty of feminism can fog many people’s worldview. I can hardly claim myself a feminist without receiving suspicious glares and assumptions that I’m a “man hater,” but I’d like to settle the score.
Just because I label myself a “feminist” does not mean I hate men. It means I believe women have every right to be respected as men do without question. So, how do you know if your potential significant other is afraid of this particular f-word? For one, they refuse to call themselves a feminist.

Men on the ‘100 percent feminist’ Bumble app can’t handle the queen bee
They say good men are hard to find and that sailing through the dating waters can be rough. I have publicly self-identified as a feminist for about five years now. Even before my official declaration, dating was difficult — to say the least. Relationship over.
I used to be a feminist, and I never thought I would say something like this, but yes, absolutely! I am not comfortable with people telling me what their doctrines.
I met my husband when I was still figuring out how much feminism I wanted in my life. Or, rather how much I wanted to be associated with the term. I loved any story that portrayed women defying stereotypes, but for myself, I liked traditional gender roles. I always envisioned the concept of family based around a care-taking mom and a breadwinning dad. I started to embrace feminism later on, while still applying tradition in my own life.
I came to understand that the movement was about choice and a no-judgment sisterhood. I was free to pursue any family dynamic I desired, precisely because the women who came before me fought for my rights. My husband, on the other hand, not so much. Was the guy in question famous?
Is The Bachelor anti-feminist, or is conventional heterosexual romance the real problem?
Feminism as a movement gets a lot right: equality for all shouldn’t be up for debate. But feminism as an institution has become regressive in many cases. Note: This is the second article in a series about gender and equality. In it, I discuss a lot of the unhealthy cultural forces that lead men to oppress women as well as damage themselves. In this piece, I look at the feminist movement and question some of its strategies for implementing greater equality in society. These qualities are a bare minimum. But men looking for feminist-sanctioned romance tend to fall in to one of two categories: those who use our attraction as a sign of approval and seek out trophy feminists to clear their conscience of any inherent patriarchal wrong-doing, and outright predators who employ a bare-bones knowledge of feminist discourse to target any young woman whose politics so much as graze the notion of sex-positivity. There was the chap who invited me to an event, not so much as a plus one but as a testing ground for his ribald, sexist one-liners.
After each remark he would look to me, gauging my reaction to see exactly how much of his cheap and dirty humour he could unleash while still passing the feminist litmus test. I had lunch with a man whose openness about sex and sexuality impressed me until I declined his offer for an afternoon quickie — his response made it clear that his feminism had no room for my apparent frigidity.
When I finally asked him to cool his jets, he responded furiously that I should be grateful for his incessant questions and I was lucky a man wanted to hear my opinion at all.
Feminism in Dating: It’s not about making the first move, but having the choice
However, no funding was received for the material featured in this article. This summer, I wrote a story for The Conversation about my experiences using Bumble, a self-described feminist dating app where women make the first move. I also expressed my disappointment in the lack of sexy, equitable connections Bumble generated for me — connections promised in its marketing campaigns when I signed up.
As a woman seeking fun and romance, I found my Bumble journey quite frustrating. But as a researcher interested in gender, sexuality and digital dating practices, I found it fascinating.

It’s younger and less established than the CWA, though the two organizations are often discussed in relation to each other. It was founded to take on the “old feminist establishment”. These organizations frame themselves as being by women, for women, in order to fight the idea that feminism is the only women-oriented ideology.
